Bloody Tears of Joy

I've been giving Dawn of Sorrow the attention it damn well deserves lately. I'm only about 35% through it and I'm already convinced that it's the best game on the DS. As awesome as the screenshots flying around the internet are, they cannot possibly do the game justice. It's every bit as visually awesome, if not moreso, than Symphony of the Night.

Where the game comes up short is the stylus aspect. I fought a boss today that was revived twice 'cause I was fumbling with my stylus. They really could've left that shit out. It adds nothing and only takes me out of the game and reminds me I'm playing a DS everytime I beat a boss.

It's a great game to play in the dark, so you can make out the details. You can see Soma's breath when he's outside. If you hang out in the Missing Village (the first "level") you might spot a sasquatch in the background. Soma's animations are awesome and varied. He swings a broadsword or a great axe over his head, but when he's using a katana he quickly strikes and re-sheathes his blade in a flash. When he uses a 9mm, you'd think he'd come straight out of San Andreas. Too cool for words.

Most of the enemies have been redrawn and they're really eager to show off their new moves.

Also. I've yet to run across a single medusa head. And I'm grateful.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

Normally, I avoid talking about anything outside the realm of my own problems or videogames here but I've never been so embarassed to be in the employ of the United States and my Commander in Chief especially, that I have to say something. I've never witnessed something so mishandled as the response to Hurricane Katrina and the utter decimation of New Orleans.

I'm fucking outraged.

I'm extremeley proud of Kanye West, literally putting Bush to task on live national television. There are those who would have you believe his tirade was somehow self-serving. Being a fan of Kanye's music, and not a fan of his oft-inflated ego, I have to say, it's the most selfless thing I've ever seen him do. He was obvioulsy nervous, his voice was shaking the whole time and I thought he was going to cry at one point. Whether you agree with him or not, the sluggishness of the support for N.O. in comparison to Indonesia, 9/11, and even the hurricanes that tore through Florida last year is very telling, if nothing else.

I was watching AFN the other day. They were showing footage of Bush visiting some sailors in Coronado, one of whom is a close friend of mine. While he was there he had the gall to equate the Iraq conflict to World War II. In an interview, one sailor said something to the effect of "It's an honor to be in the presence of a veteran."

I literally gagged.

There's nothing honorable about the man. Everytime he speaks he makes my stomach turn.

For the record, I don't think George Bush is a racist. If he is, he's a massive underachiever. I do however believe he is a moron, unfit to run his own mouth, much less this country.
